Getting There
We boarded the train in Vienna at 8:40 a.m. and arrived in Budapest around 11 a.m. My friend and I parted ways to drop off our luggage as we stayed in separate accommodations.
Accommodation
I stayed at the Flow Spaces hostel, which featured two community areas with kitchens—one upstairs and one downstairs.
Day One
September 12, 2022
I dropped my backpack at reception as it was too early for check-in and headed towards Gellért Hill. I walked as high as I could until I reached the top which was shut off for building works. When my friend called to meet for lunch, I hurried back down to meet him.

Afternoon
From there, we walked along the river, pausing for a moment at the Danube Bank Shoes, a monument to the Hungarian Jewish Victims.
We passed the Imre Nagy statue and the Hungarian Parliament building on our way to Margaret Island. We arrived at the island’s musical fountain just in time for the show.

Musical Fountain
We walked to Fisherman’s Bastion to watch the sunset, saw they sold Chimneys here and bought one to eat. I returned to the hostel to check in and freshen up for the evening.

Before leaving, I went into the common room and met two lovely people, Yara and Harry.
When I returned to my dorm room after meeting a friend for dinner, everyone was still awake talking.
After a brief conversation, I got invited to join a group chat on Instagram that some of them used to connect with other travellers they had met in Budapest.
Day Two
September 13, 2022
I had invited Yara and Harry to have breakfast with my friend and me, so we gathered in the lobby before leaving. After breakfast, Yara came with us to Széchenyi Thermal Baths.

We had lunch at the House of Music in the surrounding park before heading over to heroes square.
